What if abounds.
Hit those grounds.
But stuck to one,
With what if spun.
Spun on in.
For the win.
A win that's a lose?
Not even a coin toss.
What if sinks.
Get some winks.
Some missing links.
Humans thinks.
Would that be thunk?
Go ask a skunk.
They don't rhyme.
They may not smell sublime.
Back on task.
What if I ask?
What if I don't?
What if goes won't.
Won't is it.
No what or if bit.
Just a clear won't.
Do you don't.
So don't you do.
Headache for you?
Haven't caught on?
It will sure dawn.
A what if.
There's your tiff.
What if is a fail,
Before you even hit the trail.
Better to do.
Ditch the what if crew.
Do and fail.
Make a new trail.
Failure teaches.
What if beaches.
As it leaves you stuck.
So on what if, back up the truck.
But wait there is more. IWSG is going to compete, not really, with Rosey's giveaway shore.

Don't need any of that. Yes, one may fall flat. One may fall flat 50 times over and over. May fail worse than a butt sniffing rover. But if you never do, nothing new can shine on through. So damn the what if. Forget that stupid tiff. Do and learn and then return. What if can choke on the gas of my little rhyming ass.
Fill your rummer, get drunk all summer.

It's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll.

Won't - I'm going to look at my writing in a whole new way now.
ReplyDeleteWon't you didn't with the what if
DeleteBeat out the what if tiff
This was just great Pat.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
Glad it was grand
DeleteHere in my land
If you fail, get up, dust yourself off, and get on with it.
ReplyDeleteYep, and if you really want to
DeleteYou can let the dust accrue
Just keep going

Great advice, and it's so true.

How did you know?
ReplyDeleteI have a headache at my show.
I'll be home all day,
just lounging around at my bay
because of my headache.
And no it's not fake
So no work for me today
just Netflix and blogging play!
Enjoy the rest of your week!

A migraine whine
DeleteHad to align
Just here for the cat
Hope it falls flat
Hate those things
But fine to be home resting in the wings
Don't worry about "what if" happens each day.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's all I have to say.
That it will
DeleteWhat if gets its fill
Keep on keepin' on
ReplyDeleteThat's the motto I rely upon
That's how we roll
DeleteAs away we stroll
"What if" is limiting and can cause doubts. Pff to that, indeed!
ReplyDeletePfft is what it deserves
DeleteNo need for those swerves
What if is the most common question behind why. Cool contest coming up.
ReplyDeleteYep, sure gets use
DeleteEven by a recluse
It never hurts to try!
ReplyDeleteUnless playing with a nailgun
DeleteThat may hurt before you're done
Good pep talk poem
ReplyDeleteStep by step
DeleteWith a little pep
Hmmm, it depends on how one uses the "what ifs." When used as an excuse to avoid doing something one if afraid of trying? Not good. Then again, imaging various "what ifs" is a great way for a writer to stimulate his imagination. (As if we need it...)
ReplyDeleteYeah, what if this were the case
DeleteCAn sure be something a writer can embrace
I have been know oto fail at failing!
ReplyDeleteA winning fail
DeleteFluff up your tail
Better to do?
ReplyDeleteeven if screwed?
easy to achieve?
hard to believe...
Belief can be rough
DeleteNo matter the stuff
Be like the mountains, have pride, never fail
ReplyDeleteAlways shake your stones a little or they will get stale
Have your greatness in silence, don't brag to the moon
Soon all the others will sing the very same tune
Bragging to the moon

At least we'd hope
No need to be that dope
I do so look forward to October 4th. I'm trying to think of the right way to do the picture. ;)
ReplyDeleteAll kinds of ways

If we get stuck saying "what if" it can keep us from accomplishing anything!
ReplyDeleteYep, there we sit
DeleteStill ever so full of shit
Skunks smell bad, like really bad.
ReplyDeleteThat they do
DeleteCan scare a dog too
Do and learn and then return! I like that.
ReplyDeleteThe more you learn
DeleteThe better the return
"Failure teaches." If I were starting teaching in another week, I'd hang that in my classroom, together with "Persistence reaches." And I'd credit you and share some of your picture books with my kiddos and share with my kiddos how hard you work to achieve your writing dreams. Oh, I'd be on a roll ~ I'd even share adorable Orlin and Cassie! You are an inspiration, my friend! maybe I'd have my kiddos draw Orlin and Cassie after an "author study" and send them to you. Alas, I'm retired! But I'm going to hang "Failure teaches. Persistence reaches." in my study! Have a good one, Pat. Where you're at!
ReplyDeleteIf there are any elementary teachers out there feel free to snag my ideas! I'd start with the Cassie book, "Bug in the Rug."
haha look at you go
DeleteGot a quote spurred from my show
Failure does teach more than winning
As it keeps things a spinning
Then makes the win all the better
Would be fun to receive a kiddo letter
I've gotten email before
Bug in the Rug went over well at my shore
The only failure is giving up.
ReplyDeleteThat it is
DeleteWith the failing biz
You've summed up a lot of writer angst here. Those doubt filled "what ifs" are killers.
ReplyDeleteThey can kill
DeleteSo keep on pushing the til
Failure does teach and I really would like to live on that what if beach...nice post!
ReplyDeleteBe nice to have a pristine beach
DeleteAs long as giant litterbox users weren't in reach
Well rhymed. To reach success, you have to fail a few times. You just have to keep getting up, and not let it keep you down.
ReplyDeleteYep, can't be kept down
DeleteEven when the crap piles up and turns you brown
Failure?
ReplyDeleteHere I thought all this crap meant success.
Damn! Wrong as usual! :)
haha being wrong
DeleteAll can play along
Failure teaches.
ReplyDeleteWhat if beaches.
YES! I completely agree and want to knock people over the head when they freak out about the momentary setbacks, unable to see the bigger picture. We're constantly growing by taking leaps of faith, whether we succeed or not.
Yep, a good knock to the head some sure need
DeleteAs we grow no matter what takes seed
falling flat on your hiney
ReplyDeletecan make your return so shiney

Maybe you'll need to sign George RR Martin so he can finish the book series before he dies
ReplyDeleteFat chance of that

Never give up Pat, you doing well :)
ReplyDeleteOn the go

Failure teaches. So true. It's often the only way we can learn.
ReplyDeleteYep, the only way it truly sticks in
DeleteWhen we take failure for a spin
If you fall, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and try again. I was just telling my husband to stop wallowing in the one no he was just told and start pursuing those who will say yes. No is never an option for me.
ReplyDeleteGet those yes's and away you go
DeleteIgnore the fools with their no
Failure is hard
ReplyDeleteBut it teaches us
Don't leap out
In front of a bus
Don't ask me what this means :-)
lol buses are bad
DeleteGot it at my pad
There are worse things than failing. Like, never starting.
ReplyDeleteThat there is
DeleteWith the failing biz
I think a lot of good fiction has come from "what if" questions.
ReplyDeleteA lot sure does show

One should listen to you
