Surprise!

There you are walking,
Maybe even talking,
Then out comes a bear.
Surprise! You're medium rare.

There you are driving.
So far you are surviving.
Then you hear a noise.
Surprise! Time to go to the car boys.

There you are working.
Hopefully nothing to do with twerking.
Then you get a call.
Surprise! You get to stay and mop barf in the hall.

There you are playing.
You even plan on staying.
Then you feel a click.
Surprise! You threw out your umm wick.

There you are paying.
You had no intention of staying,
But then comes the beep.
Surprise! Your bank account was emptied by some creep.

There you are applying.
This job is all about supplying.
Then you get a call in.
Surprise! Wait, porn's a sin?

There you are flying.
In the seat you are lying.
Then you hear a bang.
Surprise! You crashed. Dang!

There you are showering.
Have to make sure the toe growth isn't flowering.
Then you see the brown water flowing.
Surprise! Your septic backed up without you knowing.

There you are eating.
Soon to be trick or treating.
Then you feel the itch.
Surprise! Allergies, ain't they a bitch.

There you are reading.
My rhyme you are heeding.
Then you see ain't.
Surprise! At least it ain't finger paint.

Those all count as surprises, right? The cat would say so at our site. One nut tried to argue with us the other day. All surprises are good that come your way. Yep. Getting eaten by a bear and crashing in a plane is grand. My, what it must be like to live in la la land. Any surprises that are great your way? Any come that are crap and make you just want to hit replay? Surprise! I am done with my sass, which isn't really surprising from my little rhyming ass.

Surprise! That chocolate cake was really mud pies.

  1. many of those are not good surprises. I'd rather have someone awesome jump out of a birthday cake. (Nope, not this year, alas)
and any car noise is expensive. Turning up the radio - not a good solution

    I enjoyed this poem. Clever!

    1. Yeah, turning up the radio doesn't tend to work. A good person out of a cake wouldn't be bad.

  2. Here I am out of breath
    Least I'm not doing meth
Thrills and fun for the win
Wait, did you say porn is a sin?

  3. No, not all surprises are good ones! Especially the ones that end up in repairs that cost a lot of money. Though, I'd rather be out money than come across a hungry bear. That would be one horrible surprise!

    1. Yeah, at least out of money and alive beats being bear chow.

  4. Nope, most of those are not good surprises. A good surprise is seeing a lot more money in your checking account than you realized and then realize it really does belong to you!

    1. That is kinda a good surprise and a bad one, as you have to give it back.

  5. Some surprises are good, and some definitely are not (happening across a bear...nope/nada/not). Then there are those that seem good but turn out not to be, or vice versa. ;)

    1. There are the tricky ones that fool us in the end. But yeah, nothing good about coming across a bear.

  7. These surprises ain't
    very great
    in fact
    they severely lacked
any kind of fun at all
    not even a disco ball
    could make these good
    in any kind o' hood!

  8. I think the majority of surprises are bad ones. The only surprises I've ever liked have been when school got canceled.

    1. Yep, most sure suck. School getting cancelled is a win though. As is winning money, but who wins that?

  10. Surprises are good that come your way.
Must act fast to counter and not to delay
    Gets all feelings of fun
    When it's more than one
Some beneficial surprises akin to a payday

  11. I welcome pleasant surprises but the reality is, most of the time come not-so-good surprises!

  12. Surprises do make life interesting, lol.

  13. waking up and seeing cat barf is not a good way to start the day. Seeing dog poop on the floor is not my opinion of a good surprise. There is the good, the bad and the ugly...let's hope we all put more emphasis on the good.

    1. Well as long as you see it before you step in it, that isn't the worst surprise ever.

  15. I saw a black bear and 2 cubs when I was a kid and we went to Big Bear Lake and stayed in a cabin for a week. It was a fun time and no one was eaten.

  16. Sounds like a case of what can go wrong will go wrong.
    Good job.

  17. Running into bears you better beware. Some surprises are not so nice! I bet you would be happy with a surprise stash of cash...wish it were so for you...

    1. Not sure where that stash would come from, but yeah, I wouldn't say no to that haha

    2. I'm not a person who likes surprises, even if they're good or happy ones....so the ones you wrote about yikes! I hate birthdays parties with a passion. I don't like to get caught off guard. As a person who plans things with a good amount of detail, surprises just aren't my thing. One nice exception to that is when hubby get's home earlier than expected for cocktail hour. <a href="https://4ccccs.blogspot.com/2019/10/finish-writing-this-post.html>Sandy's Space</a>

  18. All of your examples support Murphy's Law, which in essence, says that anything bad that can happen will happen. Then there's that other law, whose name I can't recall, that says Murphy was an optimist. Me? I AM an optimist. Then again, I've never run into a hungry bear or been in an airplane crash. My "surprises" generally involve sliding across the kitchen floor after stepping into cat ralph in the middle of the night.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, I've slid across the floor under such circumstances, the fall isn't fun. Murphy should have came up with a better law if he wanted to be an optimist.

  20. What a silly statement! All surprises are NOT good... car crashes, bear attacks, and septic overfills are all great examples. There are few surprises that I can think of that would be fully appreciated aside from cash. Then I could use the money to surprise myself. Lol. I kid, I kid!
